La idea nace en 1977, en El Método 1 · La naturaleza de la Naturaleza. Morin trata de explicar cómo un universo que el segundo principio de la termodinámica condena al desorden termina, sin embargo, produciendo estrellas, células y cerebros. La respuesta clásica no le sirve: ni el orden puro de Laplace, ni el azar de Boltzmann, ni la dialéctica binaria de Hegel alcanzan. The idea is born in 1977, in The Method 1 · The Nature of Nature. Morin tries to explain how a universe that the second law of thermodynamics condemns to disorder nevertheless produces stars, cells and brains. The classical answers don't suffice: neither Laplace's pure order, nor Boltzmann's pure chance, nor Hegel's binary dialectic are enough.

And organization, when it ages or bursts — a supernova, a death — returns matter to disorder, and the loop resumes on another scale.

Out of the ensemble appears something new: flavour, viscosity, its own temperature (organization). When it cools or is served, it releases disorder again — and the loop resumes at another scale.
